How Do I Get Help for My OnlyFans Addiction? Is it possible to be addicted to OnlyFans? That question is easy for me to answer
Is it possible to be addicted to OnlyFans? That question is easy for me to answer because I get to see men come through the doors of Desert Solace, which is an inpatient rehab program that treats sex addiction, on a regular basis who have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours on OnlyFans. Their wives or girlfriends are fed up and hurt, but they can’t seem to stop. If that isn’t addictive behavior, I don’t know what is.
If you’re wondering whether you or your husband has an addiction to OnlyFans, it might help to understand how he got there and whether it’s just a different form of a sex addiction.
Sex addiction can manifest in many different forms. Some people go to compulsive masturbation to escape. For some people it’s watching porn. Some people read sexually explicit romance novels. Other people hire prostitutes. OnlyFans is just another type of pornography, although it has the added problem of costing money and it’s often quite expensive for those who are addicted.
If you’re reading this article, chances are you know what OnlyFans is. But for those who aren’t familiar with it, I’ll give a quick rundown. OnlyFans is an online subscription platform where creators share content directly with paying subscribers.
Here’s the basic idea:
Although OnlyFans allows many types of content, it’s most widely known for adult/explicit content, because the platform permits creators to post sexually explicit material behind a paywall. This is what made it popular and controversial.
OnlyFans has skyrocketed in popularity in the past 5 years and at Desert Solace we are seeing more and more men coming through our program with an addiction to OnlyFans.
First, recognizing that you have an addiction is the first step. If you feel like you are constantly thinking about OnlyFans, avoiding your real life responsibilities and commitments, spending more money than you want to or than you can afford, and it’s causing damage in your relationships, then it’s very likely that you have an addiction to OnlyFans and it’s time to seek help.
I know it can be scary to open up to other people about your addictions, but in this case, the best way to get over your addiction is with the help of another person. The fear of being judged or disappointing a loved one is usually the reason most people try to keep their addiction a secret. But chances are, if you open up to your loved ones, they will do whatever they can to help you overcome your addiction.
If you aren’t ready to open up to a loved one, then maybe talk to a friend who you feel safe with, or a church leader. Another option is to attend a 12-step meeting like Sexaholics Anonymous (I’ll talk about this more below). Chances are there is someone in that room who can guide you to find the right type of help for you.
The more you keep your addiction a secret, the longer you will stay stuck. Trust me, I tried quitting on my own a thousand times or more and it never worked until I actually asked someone else to help me. That’s when I got on the right path to recovery. You can do it too.
There are several different types of help that you can get to get over an addiction to Onlyfans.
Support Groups
I’ve talked about these support groups many times in the past, but if you’re new here, I’ll reiterate what I’ve said before. It is crucial that you find a support group with people who understand what you are going through and are willing to help you overcome your addiction. There are many different types of support groups for sex and porn addicts available right now, but I will point out a few that you could try out.
The first one I would recommend is Sexaholics Anonymous (“SA”). It’s probably the longest running support group for people who struggle with sex addictions. It’s also based off of Alcoholics Anonymous and uses a similar 12-step method to overcoming addiction. You can find a meeting near you on their website, SA.org. The important thing is to get involved, get to know the other people in your group, and make an actual commitment to working the steps. I’d also recommend finding a “sponsor” from your group who has worked the 12 steps before and can guide you through the process.
SA Lifeline is another 12-step group that is very similar to Sexaholics Anonymous, with a few differences. The meetings are a half hour longer and they incorporate more of a spiritual aspect to the meeting. Also, the SA Lifeline material takes into account the damage that the addiction can cause to a spouse/partner, so if you’re married or in a committed relationship, SA Lifeline might be helpful.
The LDS church also runs an “Addiction Recovery Program” that also incorporates the 12-steps, so if you’re a member of the LDS church and you’re struggling with an OnlyFans addiction or a porn addiction, these meetings could be helpful for you.
Outpatient Therapy with a CSAT Therapist
Therapy can be one of the most effective methods for overcoming an OnlyFans addiction because it helps you get to the root of what is causing your behaviors. It’s important to find a therapist who is a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist (CSAT) like the ones we have here at Desert Solace. CSATs understand the nature of sex addiction and what is causing you to act out using porn or OnlyFans, and they can help guide you through a path to recovery where you can overcome your addiction.
Inpatient Therapy:
If you’re looking for the most effective way to overcome an OnlyFans addiction, inpatient therapy at a sexual addiction rehab like Desert Solace is for you. Inpatient therapy is where you go live in a residential center for a period of time (at Desert Solace we offer stays between 30 days and 120 days), and undergo intensive therapy for your addiction. The amount of therapy packed into a 90 day stay would take a normal person years of outpatient therapy to finish. Inpatient therapy also has the advantage of removing you from the environment where you are continually assaulted by triggers and stressors that are one of the biggest causes of your addictive behaviors.
Inpatient therapy for porn addiction gives you the chance to tackle your addiction from a place of power, rather than feeling like you are constantly drowning.
